Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Paro

Arriving at Paro International Airport offers one of the most unique landing experiences, with breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayas welcoming you to Bhutan.
After settling in, spend your afternoon wandering through the charming streets of Paro town, exploring local shops that showcase the vibrant culture and crafts of the region.
A visit to the majestic Rinpung Dzong is a highlight, where you can admire its intricate architecture, soak in panoramic views of the surrounding valley, and experience the serene spiritual atmosphere that envelops this historic fortress.
As the day winds down, indulge in a delicious traditional Bhutanese meal of your choice, savoring the flavors of the local cuisine and preparing for the adventures that await you the following day.

Day 2: Paro - Bumthang ( By Domestic Flight)

Take a short and scenic domestic flight from Paro Airport to Bumthang Airport, where stunning aerial views of the Himalayas greet you as you soar above the breathtaking landscape of Bhutan.
Upon arrival, check into your hotel in Bumthang.
Bumthang valley, the spiritual heartland, is nestled in the central part of the country and is home to some of Bhutan’s oldest temples and monasteries, making it a significant pilgrimage site.
We will begin by visiting Kurjey Lhakhang, one of the most sacred monasteries in Bumthang. Built by the Guru Rinpoche in 1652, it houses a rock with his body imprint. Legend has it that Guru Rimpoche manifested as a Garuda to defeat the demon Shelging Karpo who had taken the form of a white lion.
Next, we will also visit Jambay Lhakhang, built in 659 by Tibetan King Sontsen Gampo to pin down a demoness who was obstructing the spread of Buddhism.The visitors in October gets the chance to witness the Jambay Lhakhang Drup which is one of the most secred festivals in Bhutan.

Day 3: Explore Bumthang.

Begin your day with a unique experience at Kharchu Dratshang, where you can witness and participate in the morning rituals alongside the monks, immersing yourself in the spiritual atmosphere.
Following this, embark on a hike to Tamshing Goemba, built in 1501 by the revered Buddhist saint Pema Lingpa, where you can appreciate the historical and cultural significance of this sacred site.
In the afternoon, set out on a hike to the picturesque Thangbi Valley, crossing a suspension bridge to visit the Thangbi Lhakhang, a serene monastery established in the 14th century.
The journey continues with a two-hour drive to Tang Valley, where we will visit the renowned Me-Bar Tsho (Flaming Lake), one of Bhutan’s holiest sites. This sacred lake is steeped in legend, as Terton Pema Lingpa famously dived into its waters while holding a burning butter lamp, emerging with relics in one hand and the lamp still alight in the other.
As the day comes to a close, check into the Ugyen Choling Palace, a historic gem built in the 17th century by Deb Tsokey Dorji, a descendant of the Buddhist saint Dorje Lingpa. This national treasure, privately owned by the same family for generations, offers a unique glimpse into Bhutan’s history. Its quaint museum showcases traditional living quarters, ancient utensils, and farming implements, providing insight into the lifestyle of past generations.
In the evening, enjoy cultural entertainment as villagers gather at the palace for an evening singing and dancing. You’re warmly invited to join in the festivities, making this an unforgettable experience.

Day 4: Bumthang - Mongar

Embark on a breathtaking drive from Bumthang to Mongar, where you’ll be captivated by the stunning landscapes, fertile valleys, and rich biodiversity that characterize central and eastern Bhutan.
As you traverse the winding roads, you’ll ascend Thrimshingla Pass, situated at an elevation of approximately 3,780 meters (12,400 feet) above sea level, making it one of the highest passes in Bhutan. Here, take in the panoramic views of lush hills and charming villages that dot the scenery.
Upon your arrival in Mongar, unwind and relax after your journey, seizing the opportunity to explore your surroundings, savor local delicacies, or simply enjoy the serene ambiance that this vibrant town has to offer.

Day 5: Mongar-Lhuntse-Mongar

Enjoy a scenic drive from Mongar to Lhuntse, where lush forests, magnificent wildlife, and historical significance set the stage for your adventure.
Upon arrival, visit the impressive Lhuntse Dzong, exploring its beautiful architecture and being captivated by the intricate artwork adorning the walls and roofs.
Continue to Takila, home to one of the largest statues of Guru Padmasambhava in Bhutan, offering a moment of reflection and reverence.
Immerse yourself in the local weaving tradition at a workshop in Khoma, witnessing the intricate process of sustainable Bhutanese textile creation.
After a day filled with cultural richness, return to Mongar, reflecting on the deep connections to Bhutanese heritage.

Day 6: Mongar-Trashigang

Travel to Trashigang, Bhutan’s largest eastern district, where adventure and culture await at every turn.
Visit the majestic Trashigang Dzong, dramatically perched on a cliff overlooking the Drangme Chhu River. This 17th-century fortress offers a captivating glimpse into Bhutan’s historical and administrative heart, showcasing its vital role in unifying the region

Day 7:Trashigang-Trashiyangtse

Start your trip with a visit to Gomkora Temple, the gateway to Trashiyangtse and believed to be the meditation cave of Guru Rinpoche. Immerse yourself in its spiritual aura by circumambulating the temple, as locals say, “circumambulate today, as tomorrow may be too late,” deepening your connection with Bhutan’s sacred traditions.
Next, explore Trashiyangtse Dzong, a stunning fortress that offers panoramic views of the surrounding valley.
Continue your journey to Chorten Kora, built to subdue a harmful demon believed to reside at the site. Experience the vibrant atmosphere during the first month of the lunar calendar, when two auspicious koras are held, allowing pilgrims to walk around the chorten for merit and witness the unveiling of a giant thongdrel.
Conclude your day with a visit to a traditional Bhutanese paper-making factory (Desho) or a wood-carving workshop, where skilled artisans preserve ancient techniques and craftsmanship, offering a glimpse into Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage.

Day 8. Depart Trashi Yangtse to Paro

Depart from Trashiyangtse and take a domestic flight to Trashigang, enjoying stunning aerial views of Bhutan’s landscapes as you soar through the skies.
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, take a moment to appreciate the unique landing experience amidst the majestic Himalayas.

Day 9: Hike to Taktsang Monastery or Explore Paro

Embark on an iconic hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), where breathtaking views of the Paro Valley await, offering a profound spiritual experience at one of Bhutan’s most significant pilgrimage sites.
Alternatively, delve deeper into Paro’s cultural heritage by visiting the National Museum, which showcases artifacts that highlight Bhutan’s rich history and traditions.
Another option is to explore Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, believed to have been built in the 7th century, where you can appreciate its historical significance and serene ambiance.

Tourism Policy of Bhutan

Bhutan’s tourism policy is guided by the principle of “High Value, Low Impact,” aims to preserve its natural and cultural heritage while promoting sustainable development. The country limits tourist numbers through a mandatory daily tariff/SDF (sustrainable development fee) ensuring that tourism benefits local communities and supports environmental conservation. The policy encourages quality experiences over quantity, attracting tourists who appreciate Bhutan’s unique landscapes, cultural festivals, and traditional way of life. By carefully managing tourism, Bhutan aims to maintain its distinct identity and protect its natural resources, aligning with its commitment to Gross National Happiness as a measure of progress.

Sustrainable Development Fee

Bhutan introduced the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) as part of its tourism policy to support environmental conservation, infrastructure development, and cultural preservation. As of 2022, international tourists visiting Bhutan pay an SDF of USD 200 per person, per day. However, a 50% discount is granted on USD 200 until 31 August 2027. This fee is in addition to the daily package cost and is intended to ensure a minimal environmental footprint while generating revenue for sustainable projects across the country. Regional tourists from India, who previously had no SDF, now pay a reduced rate of INR 1,200 per person, per day. This fee structure reinforces Bhutan’s “High Value, Low Impact” tourism model, promoting responsible tourism that aligns with the country’s sustainable development goals.

Visa and Entry Requirement for Bhutan

To obtain a tourist visa for Bhutan, all tourists (excluding Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals) must apply through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or an international partner, who will handle the entire visa application process. The steps to apply include selecting a licensed tour operator, providing the necessary documents to them, and paying the minimum daily package rate, which covers the visa fees. The tour operator will then submit your application to the Department of Tourism, and once it is approved, a visa clearance letter will be issued. Upon arrival in Bhutan, you must present this visa clearance letter at the port of entry, where your visa will be stamped into your passport.

Visa and Entry Requirements for Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian Nationals

Indian nationals visiting Bhutan can obtain an entry permit at the port of entry, which includes Phuentsholing, Paro, Gelephu, or Samdrup Jongkhar, by presenting a valid passport or voter ID card. Additionally, there is an option to apply for an online permit before arrival for added convenience.
