Travel Requirements

Planning your journey to Bhutan? We’re here to make the process smooth and stress-free for you.

Visa and Entry Permit

All visitors need a visa before traveling to Bhutan, except for travelers from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, who require an entry permit instead.

As part of the visa process, Bhutan requires a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of $100 per adult per night, with concessionary rates for children. This fee plays a crucial role in preserving Bhutan’s pristine environment and unique culture, ensuring that future travelers can experience the same untouched beauty.

There is also a one-time, non-refundable visa application fee of $40.

At Omba Travel, we know that paperwork and visa formalities can feel overwhelming. That’s why we handle everything for you and make it hassle-free and seamless.

Documents for Visa or Permit

Applying for a Bhutan visa is process we will take care, and we will apply on your behalf. To apply for your visa, we will  need:
✅ A digital copy of your valid passport.  valid for six months from the intended date of departure from Bhutan.
✅ A recent digital passport photo.

A Special Step: The Pledge of Friendship

As part of the visa application, you’ll be asked to sign our Pledge of Friendship, a commitment to protect, preserve, and positively contribute to Bhutan’s environment and culture. This is more than just a formality—it’s an invitation to be part of Bhutan’s philosophy of mindful and responsible travel. Which reads as:

“To the people of Bhutan,

I pledge to be not only a guest, but a friend to the kingdom:

To understand and respect its sacred places.
To connect to its living culture.
To preserve its peace and that of my hosts.
To leave its wild spaces, plants and animals undisturbed.
To remove no artefacts that belong to future generations.
And to take actions that preserve its natural beauty for them.

I am pleased to contribute the Sustainable Development Fee towards Bhutan’s preservation and development, and am privileged to act as one of its custodians on my journey and beyond”

At Omba Travel, we take care of everything for you—so you can focus on the excitement of your journey, not the paperwork. Let us handle the details while you get ready to experience the magic of Bhutan.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is highly recommended for all visitors to Bhutan, ensuring you’re covered in case of medical emergencies, accidents, or unexpected trip changes. Given Bhutan’s high-altitude terrain, it’s important to have a policy that includes coverage for high-altitude travel, medical evacuation, and trip cancellations.

If you haven’t arranged insurance before your arrival, don’t worry—you can easily purchase a policy from local providers like Bhutan Insurance Limited (BIL) or the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan (RICB).

For a hassle-free experience, Omba Travel can guide you in choosing the right coverage, so you can explore Bhutan with confidence and peace of mind. Feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help!
